Hey guys! So as many of you may already know, Melissa & I are in the process of buying our very first house!! We have our closing scheduled one week from today, and we could not be more excited. We have been super busy packing and preparing for our big move, but as always I made sure to document how things looked in our apartment before we started tearing it apart.
If you’ve been following along for quite some time, you know this apartment was a sort of temporary apartment. We moved into it with the intention of saving as much money as we can in the year before buying our house. Our original plan was to buy a house when this lease ended (around March 2018), but when we found out how inexpensive it would be to break our lease, we made the decision to start house hunting, and jump at the perfect house whenever it came along.
Since we only just moved into this apartment in March, and were super focused on final preparations for our wedding in June, we never got a chance to fully unpack and decorate this apartment. Had we stayed here longer it may have gotten a bit more finished, but I still wanted to share the final product with you guys. Again with the craziness of moving and planning a wedding, this is actually the first time I’m sharing this apartment on the blog. If you’d like to see more of the progress we’d made throughout living here, I did document a lot of it on my vlogging channel.
Again, since this apartment was meant to be a stepping stone into a house, it was quite a bit smaller than our last place. This really forced us to declutter and get rid of unnecessary stuff we were holding onto, which as a ‘collector’ I was grateful for the push. I spent the whole time in this apartment donating and trashing as much clutter as I could, so we didn’t move it unnecessarily into our house.
And while things were a little cramped, we made it work and we had room enough for everything we needed. Unfortunately Melissa’s office took the brunt of our lack of space, and so she’s super excited to get into the house, where she will have a full room for her office again!
In the meantime, we split the living area into half living room and half Melissa’s office, which worked, but was certainly not ideal. We also had to store some of her office furniture in the bedroom.
The space between Melissa’s office and our little dining room pretty much stayed a clutter drop zone the entire time we were here. There were a few things that we wanted to hold onto, but truly had no place to store in this apartment. So this little corner of the apartment kind of turned into the island of misfit clutter lol.
To say I am excited to have an attic and ample storage space in the house is a understatement!
Our small little dining area ended up being my favorite room in the apartment. It is just so bright and happy, I really love how it turned out.
We had taken what was the sofa table in our old apartment, and turned it into a sideboard to store lots of our non-daily dishes and such. We also have our china cabinet with lots of our glassware. I love all the white furniture in this space. I love also being able to see lots of our cute decorative items displayed.
On the other side of the dining room, in between the dining and living rooms and outside the kitchen, was the perfect spot for our bar cart! I still love our bar cart, and it has been getting lots of use as Melissa and I have been enjoying making ourselves fun cocktails at home on occasion.
We also really liked the kitchen in this apartment. While the wood cabinets are not my personal style, we really appreciated having the upgrade from the basic builder-grade apartment cabinets we’re used to. The faux-stainless steel appliances and granite countertops were also a nice upgrade.
To made the space a bit more ‘us’ we painted the backsplash a fun mint, and I just love how it turned out! It still makes me smile every time I look at it.
Even though this kitchen is definitely smaller in size than our last, it does a very good job of utilizing the space it has. We definitely had an abundance of cabinet space, and even had a very large pantry in this kitchen.
Beyond the dining room and kitchen is the hallway that leads to the rest of the apartment. The first door on the left is a small coat closet, and the double sliding doors on the right is where our washer & dryer were stored. I did love that we sort of had a tiny ‘laundry closet’ with storage, instead of tiny stacked units.
After the laundry closet, on the right is our full bathroom. We were lucky enough to have 1.5 bathrooms in this apartment, so Melissa & I sort of each got our own. This was Melissa’s bathroom, so we stored all of her stuff in the vanity and medicine cabinet. There is also a nice large linen closet in this bathroom which again was really nice for storage.
At the end of the hallway is our master bedroom. Again this room really never was finished being decorated, so it’s kind of just a hot mess, but whatevs this is how it looked for memory’s sake! I do love that after the wedding, we hung our ‘Mrs & Mrs’ sweetheart table decor above the bed. We thought it was the perfect spot for it!
The rest of the room is basically just a bunch of furniture stored in here because that’s the only place we had for it. We were thinking about getting rid of my high school pink & white dresser (it’s currently empty) but decided to hold onto it until we move into the house and see if we have a need for it (and it will obviously finally be repainted if we do).
We also have a black shelving unit that is usually in Melissa’s office that was stored in the bedroom. It essentially again was storage for stuff that never really found a home in this apartment. I was able to finally semi-decorate the top of the shelf about a month ago, so it looks a little more put-together.
On the other side of the room we have our full length mirror, laundry cart, and a stackable set of plastic drawers that mostly holds all our towels. Again if we had the space, the drawers would’ve been stored elsewhere, but what can you do!
Behind the bedroom door was the perfect little nook for Melissa’s bookshelf, which will again go back in her office once we move into the house.
We were also lucky enough to have an en-suite master half bath, which was “my” bathroom. Basically where I stored all my bathroom stuff, and got ready in the morning and at night.
Finally, the last room of the apartment was the second bedroom, which we used as my office. This is probably the room that got the least attention decor-wise, because I wanted to make sure the rest of the apartment got my attention first.
The first thing that greets you when you walk into my office is another little drop-zone of things that never really got put away after the move lol.
Then I have my half set-up vanity and craft areas, and some more stuff we intended to hang on the walls but never got around to.
Finally on the other wall in my main workspace, with my desk that ended up around 75% setup.
I again took the doors off the closet in this office to make my own little filming space. This chair is a new addition in this apartment, and I am so in love with it! So while my filming space never was fully finalized the way I would’ve liked, I am thrilled with my cute new filming chair.
And that pretty much finishes things up for this apartment! I can’t believe that this will be my final apartment tour ever! Only house tours from here on out!! And omg I literally cannot wait to share my first house tour with you guys! Stay tuned 😀
