Time for another wedding update!! Things are starting to pick up steam over here, and now that we have officially booked our venue the serious planning can now begin!
I feel like until now in the planning process, I was just holding my breath and waiting until we had a venue and a date to really dive into the planning process. There’s not much you can do or plan for a wedding until you have those two things set. So now that we have checked those off the official (and mile long) wedding checklist, we can really get started!

I hope you enjoyed the update! As always you can read a little summary of each area I talked about below:
Melissa and I will be tying the knot on June 2, 2017. That’s in 339 days! I just love our date, and I can’t wait to celebrate June 2nd for the rest of my life!
There was a little excitement surrounding the whole date picking process. Once we finalized the decision to book our venue (which I talk about a bit further on in the post) we got a list of available dates in the months we were interested in. After going through the dates, we decided to tentatively go with June 2nd (which is a Friday).
After talking with my parents, we decided we would actually like to try for a Saturday wedding, so we decided to go with June 10th. I emailed the venue, the date was still available and I told them we’d like to book the date and to draw up a contract. But… later that day Melissa called me and told me why that date had been kind of ringing a bell in her head… it was her Dad’s birthday! Oops!
He was very sweet and when he was told about the mixup, he said he’d be more than happy if we wanted to move forward with that date. Ultimately we decided to give up the June 10th date, since our anniversary and his birthday would then always fall on the same day, and we wanted to give each event their own date to celebrate.
So we decided to then aim for June 24th, which was a little later into the summer than we had originally wanted, but it was the only other Saturday date available. Until I emailed the woman to say we’d like to change to the 24th, and she told us that date was actually now booked!
So Melissa and I decided it was best to just give up on a Saturday date, and to go back to the original plan of June 2nd. I also have come to think that it was sort of meant to be for us to end up with June 2nd, because since the beginning of our engagement, whenever I’ve had to give our wedding date for registering wedding accounts (like The Knot) I would always put in June 2nd even though we hadn’t set anything yet.
So that is the (longish) story of how we ended up with the wedding date of June 2, 2017!
Oh my gosh, you guys. I am so stinkin’ in love with our wedding venue! It is gorgeous! We ended up booking the stone mansion I mentioned in this blog post. It was the only venue we ended up touring, and after seeing it we just knew it was perfect.
I knew from the start that I wanted to get married in a historic mansion. And I am just thrilled beyond belief that I get to host my wedding at this gorgeous venue. One of the wonderful things about this venue, is that when you rent it, you rent all of it. So we get the entire first and second floors, as well as a little cottage (which we most likely won’t even use because we already have so much space in the main house) and these lovely, massive grounds with a beautiful sprawling front lawn, and a formal garden with stone archways and a pretty little fountain.
There are these beautiful glass french doors lining the reception rooms, and a beautiful marbled room for dancing. I am so excited to take pictures on the beautiful staircase, and on the glassed in balconies on the second floor. Ugh I literally cannot describe to you guys how beautiful it is!
I’m still on the fence over whether or not I’m going to share pictures of the space before the wedding or not. Part of me wants it to be a surprise, and part of me is just dying to share it with you! But I literally don’t think I could have dreamt up a more perfect wedding venue, and I am so excited to see it all set up for our wedding!
Besides booking our venue, the other main thing we’ve been focusing on is our first engagement party. Since Melissa and I both have fairly large families, we decided to hold 2 engagement parties, the first being with Melissa’s family. My future in laws were nice enough to allow us to host it at their house, so Melissa and I have been preparing for that!
So far we have sent out invitations (which I showed in the video) and done a little brainstorming about general plans for the party. We want to keep things fun and casual. Melissa’s parents have a very spacious lawn, and so we’re hoping to take advantage of that. Mostly we just want a fun day celebrating our engagement with family and friends :).
And that pretty much wraps up all that we’ve really been doing for the wedding. I hope you’re enjoying following along this process with us! If all goes according to plan, I’ll be able to share our plans with caterers and photographers/videographers in the next update! Wish me luck!
