Hey guys!! So I finally have the post to go along with Friday’s video to share with you all today. I’m so sorry it’s a couple days late, I wasn’t able to get it finished in time to post on Friday, but I was really excited to share the video and didn’t want to hold off on publishing that! So I hope you didn’t mind too much getting a peak at the video, and having to wait a few days for the close-up pics 🙂
Anyways, as you could probably guess by the title, I finally got my brand new Kikki.k all setup the way I want, and ready for it’s initial planner tour! You’ve heard me gush about this planner so much since I got it, and I am so happy with how it turned out.
I actually really enjoyed taking my time getting the initial setup just right. Living with it, and slowly adding in things as I thought of them, or as I figured out they were needed, led to such a perfect setup that I am so happy with in the end. Unlike planners of my past, I am fully in love with every section, and I’ve been using them all regularly.
As always, I filmed a video tour which I’ve embedded below, or you can keep reading this post for some more pictures and details!
If you’re having trouble viewing the embedded video player, click here to be taken directly to the video on YouTube.
So again as you all probably know, I have the large Mint Perforated Kikki.k. I shared a full tour and review right after I got it if you’re interested in seeing the planner before I personalized it and added all of my inserts and such in.
And this is what my planner looks like when you first open it up!
This is the first planner of mine that I’ve actually decided to attempt to fill and decorate the front pockets. Normally I don’t have any use for them, and just leave them completely empty. Since I’m mostly a functional planner, I never felt the need to add cute decorative accents just for the sake of it. But this planner is just so cute, and I love seeing everyone else’s pockets on Instagram, so I decided to give it a go!
I pulled in a few odds and ends that I felt nicely matched the color scheme of this planner, which I kept pretty consistent with the way the planner came. So theres lots of mint and pink with some pops of gold.
Along with some more functional pieces, like a washi sample card and a few sheets of coordinating notes pages, I also have some fun, purely decorative accents. I love the tiny little pictures of Dakota slipped into my Kate Spade bow clip, and it’s been making me smile every time I open my planner!
I decided to keep the original dividers the planner came with in my setup. But since I wasn’t planning on dividing up the sections the way the pre-labeled dividers suggested, I simply took them out and flipped them all around, so the fronts of the dividers are now facing the back of the planner. And I’m left with brand new and blank dividers!
The first section is my Today section, which is my most used section. This is where I record my daily to do lists every morning. I even made myself some new, cute inserts to go with this planner. They are all grey, with light and dotted lines, and heart checklists. I am so in love, and I think they coordinate with my planner so well!
My to do list pages are split up into three sections of to do lists, to organize the different categories of my life. I use the top box for my personal to dos, the middle box for Etsy shop to dos, and the bottom box for blog and YouTube to dos. I also have a small notes section on the bottom of the page. I’ve really been loving these inserts, and they have been working perfectly in my routine.
Next up I have my Lists section. This section literally holds all of my lists, from to do lists (besides daily) to wishlists and everything else. The first thing in this section is an additional little acrylic to do divider thing (technical term), that I just included because I thought it was cute, and the hearts match my inserts. It also makes it super easy to find my master to do list in case it’s ever not the first page of this section in the future.
Like I said, this section holds all of my ongoing lists that I want to keep in my planner. Currently those lists include:
- Master to do list
- Bucket list
- Etsy Wishlist
- Beauty wishlist
- Skincare wishlist
- Shows to watch
- Movies to watch
- Books to read
- Baby products to remember
All of my lists are written on my custom heart checklist pages, which you can get a better look at below.
Whenever I start a new list, I just add the title into the top dotted box and it’s good to go! I’ve been loving using Studio L2E Wu Wu Alphabet stamps and Studio Calico Color Theory pigment ink in Clean Slate to stamp a few of my titles. I think the grey ink goes perfectly with the inserts.
Next up I have my Finances section. The first page in the section is a bill tracker, which is again a brand new insert designed for this planner. I’ve used several variations in design of this type of bill tracking system, and I think I’ve finally found the perfect layout for myself.
One year of bills is tracked on the front and back of a single A5 page. I then grouped two sets of 3 months each on each side of the page. All of my bills get written down in the column on the left of the chart. Then under the current month I will write the total amount due for each bill.
Once that bill is paid for the month I can check off the little heart. This has been so helpful for staying on top of my bills each month, and bonus the cute inserts make paying bills a little more fun!
Next up in this section I have a couple debt tracker pages. I keep one of these pages for each credit card/student loan/debt Melissa or I have. I’ve been a long time believer in monthly tracking of debt to stay aware and on top of things, but this insert is pretty new to my system, and I am just loving it!
At the top of the page I start by writing in the name of the credit card/etc. that I am tracking. Then at the beginning of each month, I write down the current balance. At the end of the month I’ll go back and record any interest that was accrued on that debt, and any payments that were made toward that debt, and the ending balance for the month.
This system has been so nice having an easy at a glance reference for where we stand on each of our debts. It also provides a nice little motivation if you’re working to pay down any debt, because you can quickly see as the balance number goes down at the end of each month! Definitely in love with this system, and will be using it for a long time to come.
Next up I have my Notes section. There’s nothing too exciting to share here, I just keep a bunch of lined pages in this section. While I’m usually more of a post-it girl for jotting down quick notes, I do like having lined paper readily available if I need to write down larger or more involved notes. These pages are also good for slipping out and moving to another section as needed, which you’ll see later on!
The next section is my Home section. This is for anything I want to keep track of or organize in my home. I’m still filling this section up as needs arise, but I do have a couple things in here to get started. The first page is a list of features Melissa and I would like to look for in a house, since we’ll hopefully be buying in the near future (!!).
Then I also have a quick little list of things we need to replace or purchase for the apartment whenever we get around to it.
I’m also planning to add in a page for each room of the apartment, to jot down notes and plans and such for projects or tasks I want to complete in each room. I just like having a central place to brain dump and gather notes. So I think I’ll be adding that in pretty soon.
Within my Home section, I also have a Cleaning sub-section. I made this adorable mint divider out of a file folder that came in a pack from the Target dollar spot. I added a bit of washi to the edge to add some fun and color, and I just love how it came out!
Here’s a closer peek at the washi details:
Inside the cleaning section I just have a few references for my routines and DIY cleaning instructions. I plan to add a lot more to this section, and I’m really excited to have it in my planner.
The first thing I included was a list of all of the tasks I’d like to accomplish on a quarterly basis. This is the first year I’m attempting quarterly cleaning, and so I thought a list like this would be helpful so nothing gets forgotten. I can also add to this as I go about my apartment over time and think of something that should be added in.
Next up I have these double notes pages, which are basically two separate boxes with title spots and lines for notes. I use these to write in cleaning instructions for a few of my tried and preferred cleaning methods.
I’ve been trying to include more and more natural and DIY cleaning methods to my routine, so this has been super helpful keeping all the instructions easily available instead of having to search them down on the internet time and time again.
Next up I have my Wedding section!! Since we will be planning our wedding for the next little over a year, I thought it would be appropriate and useful to have a wedding section in my regular planner. While I also have a whole separate wedding planning system (which I’m still planning to share with you all soon!) I have found it useful to have a place to easily and quickly dump some ideas or notes or lists.
The first thing I have in here is another one of those acrylic dividers, and this one says ‘love’ with little pink hearts! It was again too perfect and too cute not to add it in this section!
I have a bunch of random inserts in here. Currently I have:
- Wedding to do list
- Wedding to buy list
- Wedding wishlist
- Notes for my next wedding updates video
- Random wedding notes
I’m sure this section will evolve a little as we get further into the planning process, but for now it’s pretty simple and I like how it’s started.
Finally, my last section is actually my newest added section! I decided recently to add in a Personal section. This is to track or organize anything I want, that has to do with just me. Currently I only have a few things to organize my beauty care in here, but I also want to add in some goal tracking/habit forming type stuff.
I’ll be sure to share an update on this section once it gets a bit more beefed up! I think this section has loads of potential, and I’m excited to get it a bit more filled up in the weeks to come.
Currently I have a few more of my double notes pages to hold some DIY mask/beauty instructions. I then have a pretty detailed face mask routine steps written out that I thought would be fun to include.
Finally, the very last thing I have in my binder rings is a dashboard made out of another one of the file folders than came in the pack that I used for my Cleaning divider. This time I just used a part of the folder that didn’t have the tab on it.
I use this as a back flyleaf, to help close my planner without bending any of my inserts. You can get a better idea for what I mean in the video. Again I added a bit of washi to the bottom of the divider, just for fun and to add some cuteness!
And that finishes it up! I hope you liked getting a peek around my finished initial Kikki.k setup! I know it won’t stay exactly like this forever, as I’ll keep adding to it and tweaking as I figure out exactly what I need, but I believe the bones of my setup will stay the same for quite a while.
Again, thanks for stopping by and looking through my planner. I just love sharing these types of posts with you! Let me know what you think in the comments below. I’d also love to hear what planner you have, and how you have it set up!
