Hey guys! I’m back today with another apartment updates post for you! I’ve been really liking this way of sharing how decorating my apartment has been going. I feel like a lot of the things we do around here to put together our home just aren’t ground-breaking enough to need a whole post on their own.
However, I still like sharing the transformation of our space with you guys as we add and change things around the apartment. So I think these round-up type apartment updates posts are a great way to share with you guys the little things, and keep you up to date on how our home is coming together! You can see other apartment updates posts I’ve done here and here.
With this current set of updates, I really feel like our apartment is finally starting to really come together with the vision I have in my head. We still have quite a few things on the to do list that need to be tackled, but I’m starting to see more and more our home heading towards our goal, and looking more and more put together.
This time around, we added a whole bunch of stuff to the walls downstairs. If you’ve been a follower for a while, then you know it took Melissa and I quite some time to get things hung on our apartment walls this time around. I think we were just so afraid of hanging something, and then changing our mind, that we just didn’t hang anything for like over a year!
So in recent months we finally told ourselves that enough is enough, and to just get over our fear and get things up on the walls. Worst case scenario we take things down and plaster the small hole and move on. And honestly at this point, even if we do change our mind, with how long it took to get things on the walls the first time around, we most likely won’t be living here long enough to get around to actually moving it and hanging a second time, so…yea.
Anyways, all that to say that I have a bunch of new things on my walls to show you guys! First thing is one of my favorite mirrors, which we decided to hang over the entryway bench. It hung over the dining table in our previous apartment, but I really like it’s new spot in this apartment.
I always like keeping a mirror near our entryway for one last look check before heading out the door, so I’m super happy to finally have one up in this place!
Another thing I’m super excited to finally have hanging in the entryway is our coat/purse hooks! We had different hooks hung in our last apartment’s entryway, but I like these hooks better for this purpose. They seem a lot sturdier and will be able to hold more in terms of bags and coats.
There is also less of a risk of things slipping off the ends with these hooks, since they have those discs to really hold items on the hook. There is nothing that would annoy me more than coats and such slipping off the hooks onto the floor.
Next up, we have a whole new set-up filling the previously blank corner at the bottom of the stairs from the entryway. For a while we played with the idea of adding a side chair to this corner, but never got around to buying one and finally just got tired of this corner being so empty. So we pulled in the bar cart from the dining room (we figured a bar cart belongs more in a living room anyways), and hung our coral clock over it.
I just love the view walking down my stairs now, and getting greeted by these pretties. It sometimes is the simplest of changes that improves the whole feeling of a space!
Next up we hung the mirror that used to hang in our entryway over the living room desk. This really opens up the room, since it reflects the entire living room, and some of the huge sliding door depending on your angle. It also nicely fills up the wall over the desk.
The mirror was a Goodwill find, and so it’s a little beat up. We always had plans to paint it, we just have to settle on a color. I’m leaning slightly towards gold, but just still a little hesitant on pulling the trigger. I’ve also considered keeping it white, just giving it a fresh new coat. I’d love to hear your suggestions for which color we should paint it!
Next up is my absolute favorite update to share with you all today. We got a brand new shelving unit that we set up next to our TV stand, and oh my gosh I love it!
It is the IKEA Vittsjo unit, and I love how it is both tall to start filling up some of that gigantic wall, but also light and airy with the glass shelves! It is seriously my new favorite thing in the world, and I had so much fun setting it up with all sorts of decorative goodies!
To fit in our new shelves, we moved the bookcase from the right of the TV stand to the left. We felt the taller shelf on the right made things look a bit more balanced. We’re thinking about eventually adding another Vittsjo unit to the left to completely replace the bookcase, but for now I am so happy with this new setup!
The last change around here, and possibly the biggest, is in the dining room. We have decided to completely rearrange this room. While moving our existing furniture is just phase one, we have some big plans and a definite direction we’re heading in for this room! You can take a peak at how the room looked up until this change here.
So for now, we simply flipped the dining table 90° which I think opens up the room so much more with just that. We also moved the china cabinet (which used to be next to the window) onto the far wall if you’re looking in from the living room.
At this point, we’re planning to get rid of the little island that’s under the window. Honestly, as cute as I think it is, it really doesn’t fit with my vision for our space. And it has literally sat unused (besides a resting place for junk) the entire time we’ve lived here. It previously held our microwave in the last apartment, but we just really haven’t found a use for it in this place, so we’ve decided to not let it clutter up our space anymore, and just let it go.
We are also planning to buy/make some serving tables to flank either side of the china cabinet. I’m thinking something simple (like this console), but who knows, that could change. We also really want to paint/refinish/recover our dining room table and chairs. I am just not a fan of that wood color, and the chair cushions super need new/pretty fabric.
And that pretty much finishes up where our apartment is right now! I am so excited things are finally starting to come together. Even though we will most likely be moving again in 6 months after Melissa graduates and our lease it up. Oh well, I’m still excited to get this place looking as awesome as it can before we say goodbye!
I think I will be the most upset I’ve ever been to leave a place when we do have to move. I have never loved a home as much as I love this one, and will be truly sad when the time comes to move on. That’s one of the reasons I love blogging and sharing with you guys so much. So that even when I do move to the next chapter in my life, I’ll still have all these pictures and memories recorded and saved for years to come :).
Ok well I’m done rambling on, I hoped you guys liked taking an updated peak into my home! As always leave any thoughts or suggestions you’d like to share in the comments below!
