Hello Everyone! Today’s post is going to be a little bit different than the normal posts you see here on the blog. That’s because this is not Merrit! Let me introduce myself, I am Melissa, Merrit’s girlfriend. I am the person she is always saying amazing things about 🙂 . Anyway I am writing this post today because Merrit is away on vacation with her family so I volunteered to write a post for her.
As you can see from the title of the post, today I am writing a little bit about how I stay organized as a non planner addict, and what it’s like to date someone that is a planner addict. So if there are any of you lovely planner addicts out there who are wondering how to get a little smidge of your love for the trade to rub off on your significant other, then this might be the post for you!
First I will start off with saying that before I started dating Merrit I was what felt like the most unorganized person ever. It just didn’t come naturally to me. It took a long time for me to get to where I am today, which is not very far compared to you guys, but I do have to say that it has helped me a lot!
I had tried several different planners before I found one that worked. And that is this planner pictured below. Its the same planner that Merrit shows in this post if you want to see how she uses it. It is one of the Sugar Paper planners that they sold at Target last year. I had gotten one as a gift for Merrit and decided that I liked it and wanted to try it out.
I like this planner so much because it has lots of space for writing and it’s nice and simple. Its lined, which is a must for me because I have terrible hand writing so without lines the words just go everywhere! I just write in my todo’s for the day and that’s that. I do make one adjustment though, I have Merrit stamp check boxes for me so I have somewhere to check the todo’s off, it looks better than crossing things out. (Also I would stamp them myself but someone is very protective over her stamps 😛 )
The next thing I do to try and be a little more organized is use the stickers that Merrit sells on Etsy. I love these stickers, and yes I am a little bias, but they really do make things easier for me. I am the type of person who does not like taking a lot of time to neatly write things out. I slap a sticker down and it’d done! As you can see above I use the stickers to mark things like days that I work and the blank stickers are for dinners.
I also use the stickers in the monthly layout of the planner, which is another reason I love this planner, It has both a monthly and weekly view. In the month view I use the stickers to mark important days that I just want to stand out at a glance. I really use these monthly layouts when I am in school to write down dead lines for assignments. You can see a view of the whole month in the second picture. (Also as you can see on Sundays, Merrit has rubbed off on me a bit, Planning days! Who would have thought that would happen 😛 )
And the last thing I do to try and keep my scatter brained self organized is use Pilot Frixion pens. These pens are amazing! I love writing in pen but along with my messy writing comes a lot of scratching things out. With these pens you get all the benefit of writing with a pencil but you have the nice clean bold lines of a pen. Oh and I almost forgot about that awesome pen case Merrit got me off of JetPens.com for my Birthday this year! Since starting to date Merrit I have developed an unhealthy love of pens and needed somewhere to keep them all!
Well I hope everyone enjoyed the post, I am starting my own blog so this helped me to get a feel for what it is going to be like. I also got to help out my lovely girlfriend who works so hard on these posts for you guys. If you have any questions on how Merrit got me to use a planner and be organized be sure to ask her! Have a great day!
