Hey guys! I am just super excited to share what’s been going on in the home front recently. We have been making a whole bunch of changes here and there, and I think you guys are really going to like them! I know I am super thrilled to have some of these items checked off my master to-do list!
First, we finally got curtains hung up on one of the windows in this apartment!! I cannot tell you how extatic I am about this. I don’t know why it took us so long (a year and 2 months to be exact…) to get a single set of curtains hung in this place. They are usually the first things that go up when we move into a new apartment, but somehow they just kept getting put off and put off in this one. But no more! Our bedroom windows are no longer naked!

And can I let you in on a little secret? These curtains aren’t even curtains. It’s actually a shower curtain. I know, I feel absolutely ridiculous even saying it, but my bedroom curtain is in fact a shower curtain. I just fell in love with this pattern and fabric, and it was on clearance at Target, so I snatched it up. And it went too perfectly with the soothing grey and blue color scheme we’ve been working on in here o not use it! I mean look at how pretty it is:
Because our window is set about a foot back from the wall in a weird little alcove thing, we weren’t able to actually use a real curtain rod either (maybe that’s why it took so long to hang something up!). So we hung our new curtain us with a tension rod, which is actually working quite well! We’re also currently using plastic shower curtain rings to actually hang the curtain on the rod, which I am less than thrilled about, but it’s only temporary. I’m hoping to eventually switch to something like this.
The next update is over in the office, where I finally got my desk’s gallery wall started!! I have wanted a gallery of white frames hung above my desk since we moved in and made this room our office! Since this is where all the magic happens for Label Me Merrit and the Merrit Elizabeth shop, I need my desk and office to motivate and inspire me! So I included a bunch of pretty artwork and quotes that to do just that!
While I love the beginning of this gallery wall, it’s not completely finished. I’m hoping to add to it and expand over time. I’m also planning to rotate some of the printables in the frames over time, to keep things fresh. This is the wall I face everyday as I work, so I never want to get sick of it!
The sources for each print are as follows:
- “My life is dope and I do dope things” quote print: Cricket Lane Studio
- “Don’t ever let anyone dim your glow” printable: Kristen Duke Photography

Finally, our last (and most exciting) update, we got a brand new couch! I could just shout this one from the rooftops! We have been wanting to replace our old couch forever, and we finally pulled the trigger. And oh my gosh, haven’t looked back once. It just completely transformed the entire living room! Everything just feels so much lighter and cleaner, and just so pretty!
Here is how things were looking with the old setup, so much more drab and dreary:
It actually took us a little bit to find a couch we could both be happy with (that wouldn’t break the bank – couches are expensive y’all!). We both agreed early on we wanted a grey couch, and we liked the couch/chaise setup. We settled on the IKEA Ektorp sofa and ottoman in Nordvalla gray after looking at tons of options and debating for what seemed like forever.
We’re planning to use the ottoman as a make-shift chaise, but love that we can still pull it away from the couch for extra seating when we have company (and bonus- it was cheaper than getting the actual chaise). The ottoman’s top also lifts off, so we have a place to store our couch blanket!
We also got a few new accessories to go with our new couch. We replaced our old coffee table (which didn’t fit with the new couch arrangement) with a little Lack table until we can find and save for something more permanent. We also picked up some adorable colorful throw pillows from Target. I am just so in love with how our living room looks now, and I am so excited to see how it keeps evolving!
I hope you enjoyed taking a peek at a few of the changes we’ve been making around here recently. Don’t you agree the new couch makes the living room look 150% better? Let me know what you think in the comments below!
