So it has been quite a while since I’ve last shared a peek at what’s going on with our apartment. To be honest, that’s because not much has been really happening on the home front over here. Both Melissa and I have been pretty busy focusing on other things, so we’ve kind of stalled on the whole home decor to do list.
We have managed to get a few small things done around here. None of which really deserve a full post all on their own, but I thought would be nice to share with you guys all rolled up into one quick recap. I’m also hoping that by sharing the tiny updates we have been able to tackle, it will spark a fire under me to dive back in and start beautifying this place again!

The first major update that’s happened is finally getting my organizational wall system hung up. I love this system, but it didn’t get much use in the last apartment, simply because it’s placement wasn’t very convenient or functional. So previously, it mostly got cluttered up with random cards and such, and functioned basically as a glorified and not so pretty inspiration board.
With this apartment though, I have big plans for this baby. I hung it front and center over my IKEA Alex, right next to my desk. While I plan to still incorporate a little of the ‘inspiration board’ feeling (you can see the start in the upper left square), I also want to get a little more function out of this setup this time around. I plan to do a post going a little more detail on how I am going to use this board. For now, I’m still finalizing my plans for how I’ll use this space.
Next up, we have a new addition to our bedroom, in the form of Melissa’s old high school dresser. It’s the IKEA Malm, and while we both agree its not the prettiest girl at the ball, we needed the extra storage, and well it was free ;). And once a few other things are checked off the to do list, there are tons of hacks out there for this guy that we may try our hand at.
We put our new dresser on the empty wall that the bedroom door is on, since that was pretty much the only available space. It was a little tricky to make sure it was a good distance from both the corner of the bed and my dresser, to allow for walking room, but we finally got it in a good spot. Now we just need to hang something on that wall so it’s not such a blank expanse of beige! We’ll also eventually move Dakota’s crate into a more convenient location.
An awesome result of adding in the storage from the dresser was being able to clear some space in the master closet for the laundry baskets. This means that they no longer sit at the end of the bed! This one simple change makes the room feel so much bigger, and less cluttered. I am just in love with this view now:
And I swear the next thing we’re going to tackle is finally get curtains hung up in this place! I honestly don’t know how we’ve gone almost a year with no curtains. The wall behind the bed still stumps me a little though, with the window off center how it is. If any of you have an idea for decorating that wall, please shout it out in the comments, I’d love to hear them!
The final change around here is the one I was probably the most excited about. If you follow me on Instagram, you already know I got a beautiful gold bar cart for Christmas! I am just thrilled to the gills with this gem, and have been busy pinning away all sorts of styling tips and ideas.
We found a place for it in the dining room, sitting in door frame leading into the living room, while is also conveniently next to the doorway into the kitchen. It is a perfect little wall for my new baby, and I can’t wait to style it up a bit more!
I have big plans for this baby, with beautiful glass decanters and barware, I am so pumped!! For now I have a couple of our stemless wine glasses, some etched tumblers, a few of our mugs (was thinking coffee/bar cart combo as a possibility) and the only hard liquor we had in the house on top, and our wine on the bottom shelf. I may have plans for buying some scotch or whiskey just so I have an excuse to buy some of the beautiful glassware every bar cart needs!
And that finishes up the little mini tour of some small changes we’ve been making around here lately! Nothing ground breaking, but I feel that it’s these this small updates that slowly make a house into a perfect home. It’s these baby steps that really help me see what direction I want to take a room, and slowly put things together. A beautiful home doesn’t happen overnight, and I’m grateful for these small updates that come together in the end for a big impact!
Are you guys making any small changes around your house? Or gearing up to make some bigger ones in the (hopefully) near future? I know I’m getting ready to really start tackling my master list, and get this place in shape!
