Hey everyone! Today I have a super easy, and super cute, DIY for you. I am always, always being surprised by birthday and holidays, even though they happen the same time year after year! They just seem to sneak up on me when I’m least prepared. And I know I’m not the only one who feels this way.
While I love the year at a glance page in the front of my everyday planner (which has all my important dates written in) I found I wasn’t flipping to it as frequently as I should. So I still wasn’t seeing which important dates were approaching, and was still getting blindsided. I needed something that could stay out in the open, constantly reminding me to check.
So I came up with the idea for a simple little reminder keyring for all those important dates that happen every year. Whether you need to remember everyone’s birthday, or you just need a simple reminder that a holiday is fast approaching, this little keyring will help you with organizing important dates!

Supplies You’ll Need
- Index cards
- Paper trimmer
- Washi tape
- Checklist stamp
- Stamping ink
- Sharpie ultra fine point
- Hole punch
- Clasp ring
You will need to start by cutting out 12 pieces of cardstock, one for each month. I used index cards as the base of my keyring pages, since they’re nice and thick. I cut each card down into a 2.5×2.5″ square using my paper trimmer.
Line the top of your cardstock square with your favorite washi tape. I got the washi used here from Target, but you can find tons of options on Amazon as well. Trim any excess off the edges of your cards using precision tipped scissors.
I chose to line each month with a different washi tape, to make things colorful. You can do the same as me, or use the same washi for the entire year, or split things up by season, get creative and have fun with this step!
Write the name of each month onto the washi tape on your 12 cards. I used a Sharpie ultra fine point marker to write the months. These markers are the only thing I have found that write on washi and don’t smudge.
Write out the date and a short description of all your important dates onto the correct monthly card. Punch a hole in the corner of each card, pop it on your clasp ring and you’re done! You now have an adorable, useful and organized important dates keyring.
I absolutely love this little reference keyring, it’s just adorable! And it’s so quick and easy to make, I’m already planning what else I can make using this system. I’m open to any and all suggestions, let me know your ideas in the comments!
