Anything that didn’t belong in a specific room, or didn’t have a place to be put yet, just kind of got dumped in the entryway. This left a fun little maze for us to walk through for the first couple months we lived here. And unfortunately, things just got worse before they got better.
Definitely a million times better than the post-apocalyptic view we dealt with for months. It feels so good to have all the cluttered cleared out, and to be left with only what truly belongs in the entryway. While it is a nice fresh breath of air having the clutter removed, the space it starting to feel a little stark and empty.
The first thing I really want to focus on in this space is setting up an awesome command center right above the bench. We’re still discussing exactly what we will need functionally out of this space, but I’m definitely planning to cram in a ton of organization. I will definitely be referring to some of my favorite command centers for inspiration when tackling this project.
I’m also planning to spruce up the furniture a little bit. I would like to replace the pillows on our bench, since they have obviously seen better days. I also want to either redo or replace the little caddy on top of the side table. It was a thrift find, so I may try to do something fun with it, and I won’t be too worried if I just completely ruin it.
On the other side of the entryway is our stairs. I still love that we have stairs in our apartment!! I’m thinking about doing some sort of simple frame gallery going up the wall to the second floor. Not much else I can really do over here though.
Finally, if you turn to the right, you’ll be facing the wall with our front door and coat closet. The front door is set back from the entryway by a little hallway. I’d love to get a cute colorful rug for this space, to cover up the linoleum. I’m also planning on hanging some art on these walls.
Melissa and I have also been playing around with different shoe organization ideas. The one I’m leaning towards pretty heavily right now is this organizer from IKEA, since it’d be skinny enough to fit in that hallway. I’m just not a fan of having tons of shoes line the entire hallway, so I’d love a way to get them up off the floor.
And this is our disaster of a coat closet. No after pictures here! Especially since it’s been warm and sunny here, the coat closet has been a bit ignored. With colder months approaching though, it’s time to clear out this closet and give it a good organization makeover. I’m thinking about adding some shelves to the floor of the closet, to add some additional storage real estate.
And that finishes up this short and sweet entryway tour. To wrap things up, here is my to-do list for my entryway:
- create a command center
- replace bench pillows
- apply polycrilic to finish entry table
- replace/update caddy on entry table
- hang art in stairwell
- hang art in entry hallway
- hang hooks for backpacks/bags/purses
- find rug for entry hallway
- organize coat closet
- shoe organization
